High Level Breakfast Meeting- Promoting Local Economic Development to Create Jobs, September - 09 - 2022, Accra.The Institute of Local Government Studies held a High Level Breakfast Meeting on Promoting Local Economic Development to Create Jobs on 9th September, 2022 in Accra. The discussions centered on Lessons from the Nationwide Training on the Next Generation Local Economic Development (NGLED) and Emerging Issues and the localisation of the national agenda for job creation.
A small group of the sector's policy makers/technocrats from the Ministry of Local Government(MLGDRD), Decentralisation and Rural Development, Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Office of the Head of Local Government Services (OHLGS), Office of the Head of Civil Service (OHCS), Ghana Export Promotion (GEPA) and the Public Sector Reforms were invited to discuss the NGLED approach and its implications on LED policy, programmes and strategies.
In addition, some of the other issues considered for discussions were the localisation of the national agenda for job creation, the NGLED programme and organisational management strategies to be made more explicit in the policy document and the LED investment fair.
Prof. Nicholas Awortwi, Director of the Institute explained the Programmes Implementation and Strategies in Promoting Local Economic Development to create Jobs and participants made inputs to the presentation. A 5 member team from the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, led by the CEO, Dr Afua Asabea Asare also joined in the discussions.
